POST & UNIT & SQUADRON #33
NOVEMBER 2025
LEGION-TAL
Commanders Corner:
Hello everyone,
For the past couple of years, we’ve fallen short of our membership goals. Membership is what keeps our Post strong and active, and I know we can turn this around if we work together.
I’d really like to hear from you—what ideas do you have to bring in new members or keep our current ones more engaged? No idea is too small, and your input could make a big difference.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly.
Thank you for all you do to support our Post and each other.
For God and Country,
Mark Keiser
Commander, Post 33

American Legion Christmas Dinner: Our annual Post 33 Christmas Dinner will be held on Saturday, December 13th at the Army National Guard Armory in Lander, beginning at 5pm. Setup will begin at 1pm and should not take long. Any help is greatly appreciated. There is no cost for the meal and members and their families are encouraged to attend. Please RSVP to 2nd VC Ella Riggs at 307-922-1193, text to the same number or e-mail to WYLegionPost33@gmail.com . We need a good headcount so we have enough food for everyone. This will be a traditional Holiday meal. The dinner will be in place of our regular December meeting. If you know a veteran that is not a member of the Legion, ALA or Sons, please consider inviting them as our guest.
Veterans Day: The High School students are once again planning their annual Veterans Day program at LVHS Gym to honor all veterans in the community. The program will begin at 1p.m., Tuesday, November 11th. A short ceremony will follow in the lobby to dedicate the new Wall of Honor.
Opportunity Day; We are planning 2 visits to the High School, one before Christmas and one after.
If you are able to help talk about Boys & Girls State, scholarships, Oratory, Scouts, etc, let Ken Jr know.
Veterans Recognition; We are proud to announce that Loriann Crump has been selected as our Veterans Day Veterans Recognition recipient for 2025. Lori is recognized not only for her Military service in the US Army but her community service, service as a State Service Officer for the Wyoming Veterans Commission but her continuing service to all veterans in our community.
Membership: Post 33 been pushing early this year to meet our 2026 goal of 202 members, and so far we have met all our monthly goals! For those members who have not renewed for the year 2026, you will be receiving notices in the mail around Veterans Day and should expect phone calls and knocks on your doors shortly after. You may renew online at legion.org, send a check for $50 to Post 33, PO Box 6, Lander, or bring it with you to our next monthly American Legion meeting. We will continue to encourage early renewals by drawing $100, $75 and $50 winners from our list of renewed members! The first drawing will be held on Veterans Day ($100), the second at our Christmas Dinner ($75), and the final drawing at our Legion Birthday Dinner ($50). So, renew early for your chance to win some money! Your membership committee will be working to identify and contact veterans in our community who have not joined the American Legion. If you know of anyone; co-worker, friend, neighbor, etc., who fits in this category, please talk to them about joining or forward their names to Keith Trouwborst, 1st Vice. Remember, membership recruiting is every Post member’s responsibility!
Avenue of Flags: Flag display on Main Street occurs 5 times a year and is facilitated by the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 33. The last event this year will be Veterans Day. Expect flags to go up on 10 Nov and down on 12 Nov. We have been fortunate to receive help from both our Scout Troop and the Legion baseball team in putting up and taking down the 80 flags during these periods but for Veterans Day, the kids are in school during the weekdays and we can’t count on them. Any and all help from the membership will be appreciated. Specific times and dates for Memorial Day weekend, Flag Day and Independence Day 2026 will be determined in the springtime. If you have questions, contact our SAL Squadron 33 Commander Keith Trouwborst, 719-650-6761.
Chaplain’s Corner: Post 33 Chaplain and Service Officer Lori Crump is available for prayer and comradeship. Please call 307-330-3310.
Let us always remember “The reason for the season!”
“She will give birth to a Son and you will name Him Jesus because He will save His people from their sins.” This all happened so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled. “Look! The virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son, and they will call Him Emmanuel,” which means “God with us.” Matthew 1:21-23 NET
Veterans Memorial: The Fremont County Veteran Memorial of Honor located in the park in front of the Courthouse honors all Veterans that lived in or moved to Fremont County. Our Post facilitates adding names to these monument walls in the form of brass plaques. If you or any Veteran you know of from Fremont County are not already recognized here, please contact our Post or the Fremont County Courthouse for more information. A plaque will be ordered once we have at least 30 names. Plaques will be mounted to the Memorial either on Memorial Day or Veterans Day. We request a donation of $30 for each name to help defray the costs of the plaque.
SONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION
Squadron 33 is healthy and well ahead of the power curve for membership so far this year. We are always looking for new members and welcome any male Legion members whose father/mother/grandfather/grandmother served in the U.S. military and were eligible for American Legion membership to join up. We would also love to sign up those sons of current Legion members into our Squadron. As the Squadron grows and becomes more active in our community, younger blood will help in our endeavors. One effort we have volunteered to take is helping other District 3 Posts to start up their own SAL squadrons. This will entail mentoring their Sons eligible personnel and helping them establish the organization needed to Charter their own Squadron. The Sons meet every 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6pm before the regular American Legion monthly meeting. Come see what the Sons are up to!
Keith Trouwborst, Squadron 33 Commander

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:
The next Unit meeting will be on Tuesday, November 18th, at 7 p.m. to be held in the VFW Hall on Tweed Lane. Please plan on attending the meeting as your input and participation is important for the future of our organization.
In these troubled times, if you are able to reach out to anyone who might need help due to food insecurity, please do what you can. Every little bit helps, whether it is direct assistance to someone in need or a donation to the local food bank. The Unit recently made a $250 donation to the Lander Care and Share Food Bank.
Although our active membership is small, we continue to promote and support the Auxiliary programs as well as those of The American Legion Family. Please join us as we work for our Veterans, our Active-Duty Military, and their families.
For God & Country, Shareen Johnson, Unit 33 President
