18 March 2025 Dear Post163 Member I want to start by thanking your for being a member of our American Legion Post. It has been an honor to have been your Commander for the last two years. We have managed to start rebuilding our membership numbers and to be active in our community again. In the next couple of months we have some important dates we need you to be aware of and we hope that you will make the effort to come to the meetings and help out in the events. First date you need to be aware of is our April meeting on April 12th. We will have a 2nd round of nominations on that date and will then hold Elections for the upcoming year, which for officers means from May through April. Lunch is served prior to the Legion meeting (apx 12 noon, depending on when the VFW meeting gets out). The lunch is free, but there is a donation jar out to help cover the cost of the food. Elected Positions include: Post Commander, 1st Vice Commander (Membership), 2nd Vice Commander (Events and Fund Raisers), Finance Officer, Members at Large (2 people from the general membership to be a part of the Executive Committee, basically a liaison between members and officers), and Delegates to Department of California Convention in June to be held in Visalia (3 Delegates and 3 Alternates) We need our membership to attend in person to participate in the election, which is held with paper ballots. New officers will be sworn in at our May 10th meeting. On Saturday, April 5th we will be holding a Pancake Breakfast from 8-10 am (Veterans eat free) and a Rummage Sale from 9 am - 1pm. We need volunteers Friday evening to help set things up, trying to do this with only a couple of people just isn’t do-able. Then we need volunteers Saturday to work the Sale, and when it is over to help break things down and put things away. Saturday, May 3rd we will be holding our Monthly Pancake Breakfast from 8-10 am (Veterans eat free). Volunteers would be nice, but if you can’t volunteer come out and eat. Bring family and friends with you. Memorial Day is Monday, May 26th, we will be having our annual Ceremony at the Alturas Cemetery. Flags are put on Veterans graves on Saturday, May 24th. Volunteers are needed for both events. Saturday, Jun 7th is our monthly Pancake Breakfast, again volunteers needed! Saturday, June 28th will be Outdoor Expo, that is the same weekend as the Department of California American Legion Convention, that means we need the membership to step up and volunteer for the Outdoor Expo. We count on this and Fandango Days in July to be big money raisers for the Post so we can keep our Post running. Just like a household can’t function without income, neither can the Post. Finally, Fandango Days will be Saturday, July 5th. Big event, need Legion members to Volunteer! There will be no Pancake Breakfast in July, just Fandango Days. Thank you for being a member of our American Legion Post. Hope to see you at our meetings and events. Linda Newman, Commander
